My Family Pets

Hello, my name is Jordan and I am 8 years old. I would like to tell you about my family pets. I own Newfoundland dogs and I think they are the best dogs in the world. They are big dogs and they drool sometimes but I think they are the best dogs in the world and I will tell you all about them.
My dogs are from places in Canada and the United States. When they were just pups they took a long plane ride here to come live with my mom, dad and I and they were very excited to see us when they arrived. Did you know that they come in 4 different colors? They can be all black, white and black ( landseer), grey. and brown. Sophie is grey, Tonka and Carter are all black and Lucy is white and black. They are all giant dogs that can weigh almost 150 lbs, but don't be afraid becuase they are very kind and gentle.
Newfoundland dogs love to go swimming. They have webbed feet that helps them to be such strong swimmers. In the summer time I go swimming with Tonka and she pulls me all around the lake while I hold onto her tail. It's alot of fun! Most fisherman had newfies on their fishing boats as rescue dogs. If anyone fell overboard the dog would jump overboard into the ocean to save the drowning person. they hardly ever get cold because they have very long, thick fur, and they are so strong that they rarely get tired. When the fisherman came home, they used their newfoundland dogs to pull carts of fish to the market. Some people also just had newfoundlands for family pets because they are so good with kids ( my mom says they are great protectors and guardians).
There are many famous newfoundland dogs in the world. Did you know that " Nana: in the movie "Peter Pan" was actually a newfoundland dog? There was also a famous newfie named " Gander" in the war, he saved the soldiers from a bomb.
My dog Lucy is going to have puppies very soon. I hope she has alot because they are so much fun to play with. I would like to keep them all but my mom says we can't. They will live with us for a few months and then they will go to their new families. It makes me sad to see them leave, but it's nice to know that they will go to great homes and other kids will see how great they really are.
Newfoundland dogs are great! they love to do tricks so they can have a treat. my dogs can sit. roll over, lie down, give high fives , spin in circles, and even bow! They love to play fetch, go swimming with me and they can even pull me in my slide in the winter. They never run away, and they love being with me all the time, even while I am playing my Play Station 2! They even love to sleep on my bed at night. I believe that everyone should have pets like mine. They are big like bears, but they are loving, kind and cuddly and I believe they are the best dogs in the world!
This story was written by Jordan in early March, 2004. Since then Lucy has given birth to 5 happy healthy puppies. Jordan is enjoying every minute he has with them. Please see pictures of our puppies in our photo album
